Success Story – Sierra Collins
Our featured member is “Sierra Collins, Vice President Winchester Core – Owner of Sierra Learnership Collaborative”.
I started my business in June 2020 and joined neXco National as a founding member and the Vice President of the Winchester Core chapter just a few months later in October 2020. I attribute the success of my business to my involvement, commitment and the relationships I have developed through the introductions made by my neXco National family. I hope this month’s success story helps you to see the value and potential of your membership and allows you to be more engaged and intentional in increasing your business opportunities and relationships.
I joined neXco with the attitude that I would get out of my membership what I put into it. Just 10 months after joining neXco National, 91% of my active contracts have come from member and guest referrals. I attribute quality introductions to decision makers and centers of influence as the reason for my success. I discovered through ChamberForge reporting that in the past 10 months, I have participated in 187 1:1s. Most people may gasp in response to that number, but I would like to put this into perspective. On average, a typical 1:1 lasts about 30 minutes. That equates to 93.5 hours of relationship-building. It may seem overwhelming at first, however relationship building is a critical part of business development. Few people work only 40 hours a week, but even if they did, this is only about 2.3 weeks of relationship-building in 10 months’ time. Spending 93.5 hours on relationship-building has resulted in 95% of my total business revenue. I know we all have limited time and an endless number or responsibilities on our plate, but I think anyone would agree that this is an extraordinary return on investment.
When discussing with the Winchester Core leadership team what we can do to increase the number of referrals passed in our chapter, we always believe it comes back to the number of 1:1s in which our members engage. We encourage meaningful 1:1s and know that this will naturally lead to keeping each other top of mind and making referrals. Focused 30 minute 1:1s can accomplish a lot in terms of getting to know the individual on both a personal and professional level, discovering what you can do to support the individual, and identifying possible connections for that member or guest. Focusing on how to help the other individual rather than focusing on how they can help you, will result in a mutually beneficial and rewarding relationship.
If you feel as though you have not received the number of referrals you had hoped for, I encourage you to ask yourself if you are using your time effectively in setting 1;1s and building relationships with members and guests. The ability to participate in cross-chapter visits allows you access to a community of like-minded referral partners. Be sure to make the most of your membership and schedule a 1:1 or two today! Thank you for your support over the past 10 months. I look forward to continuing to grow alongside each of you.
